  1. For centuries the Tutsi (an extremely tall people) dominated the
  2. Hutus (90% of the population).  In 1959, civil war broke out and
  3. the Tutsi power came to an end.  In 1961 the monarchy was
  4. abolished.  Rwanda had belonged to the Belgian United Nations
  5. trusteeship of Rwanda-Urundi, became fully independent on July 1,
  6. 1962.  A military coup in 1973 overthrew the government.  Rwanda
  7. is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, with
  8. all land being used and much of it subject to severe erosion. 
  9. Many economic and social improvement programs with foreign aid
  10. and volunteer labor have help over the recent years.
